Restoring Medley

Made from a blend of organic safflower oil and organic sweet almond oil infused with a mix of organic calendula, organic comfrey, and organic St. John’s Wort and a touch of organic vitamin E for a natural preservative agent before being combined with organic carnauba wax and organic aloe vera gel to create an enriching multi-purpose salve for your skin.

Safflower oil contains linoleic acid (omega-6) along with some oleic acid (omega-9). These fatty acids play vital roles in maintaining your skin health. Linoleic acid is often used to help restore the barrier function of skin, while oleic acid balances this function by serving as a skin softening, anti-inflammatory agent.

Sweet almond oil is an excellent complement to safflower oil, containing oleic acid and linoleic acid also. These oils work in tandem to help reduce sebum and promote positive skin qualities for healthy skin.

Calendula is an excellent skincare flower. It’s edible and comes from the marigold family. When used in skincare it has traditionally been regarded as anti-inflammatory, calming, soothing, and helping to restore skin. Some sources even suggest it has mild antimicrobial properties.

While we usually stick to edible herbs, comfrey is a rare exception. It is not considered safe for consumption but it’s very safe for topical skincare applications. It has traditionally been called “knitbone” for its use in healing bone fractures or tendon damage. It also has so many beneficial skin properties that it was hard to overlook it. Comfrey is a natural source of allantoin, which is an emollient agent that helps moisturize the skin and lock it in to reduce moisture loss. Not only that but allantoin is regarded as having anti-inflammatory properties and also soothes many painful skin issues like rashes or burns while helping to aid in the skin’s quick healing process. Additionally, the allantoin in comfrey helps soften keratin which helps aid the skin in cell turnover and to retain moisture better.

St. John’s Wort is often associated with being used to help with depression when taken internally, but it also has beneficial skincare properties. Traditionally it has been used for aiding wound healing but also as a topical anti-inflammatory agent. As with many other beneficial skin herbs, it too has reported anti-microbial properties.

A small bit of vitamin E is added to the mix as a natural preservative agent, but it also serves as a great skin protectant, moisturizer and antioxidant. It’s best in small doses so adding it to this mixture in a tiny quantity is perfect.

We start by infusing the oils with herbs by allowing the mixture to steep at a low temperature for over 24 hours. This extracts the qualities we want from herbs without needing to put those herb particles directly into the product. In using this method, we are able to keep our textures nice and smooth when we incorporate those ingredients which helps everything absorb into your skin and leave it feeling smooth. Following the infusion process the oil is strained twice to remove any plant matter and give our oil a clean and clear look. The oil begins a golden amber but transforms into a beautiful green, letting us see that all the properties of the plant matter has been extracted.

Once the oil is ready it is combined with aloe vera gel and carnauba wax.

Aloe vera gel is often used to heal a variety of skin issues. It’s often regarded as a wonderful remedy for soothing sunburn. It also acts as another moisturizing agent in this salve but contains a variety of up to 75 nutrients to keep your skin looking healthy.

Carnauba wax helps give this salve a bit of texture and helps thicken it a bit. It also acts as a moisture lock to help retain all the ingredients against your skin as it absorbs.

This salve can be used for so many uses – burns, cuts, scrapes, rashes, eczema – and we’re sure you’ll find it the perfect addition to your supply of skincare products.
